Roleplay Creative Writing
Hi! I'm David Bowers. I'm a teacher with more than two decades teaching experience in Asia. I've taught both English and Social Studies and mixed them together too. Over the years I've developed a way of teaching writing, teamwork, and problem solving through roleplay and improvisational storytelling techniques.
My students (usually around the ages of 8 to 14) decide together on the story they want to tell and describe how their characters try to solve the problems of their shared imagined world. This gives them the power to direct their own learning, use their imagination to work as a team, and develop many different kinds of writing skills. For homework, students choose from a number of different types of writing assignments such as descriptions and backstories, drawings and maps, hypotheses and plans, as well as summaries and conclusions of any unfinished scenes from class. In the next class, we all celebrate and learn from one another's writing. We make good use of their many interests to feed their growing curiosity and sense of adventure in learning.Having taught English for nearly 20 years in China, I am able to speak Chinese as needed for students who struggle with English in order to help motivate them to take risks in learning. I have a lot of respect for young writers of all backgrounds and integrate English language instruction as a natural part of this creative learning process.I have a lot to say about these classes. Phonics Reading
Hi, I'm Sanjana. I teach comprehensive phonics lessons to small children (4 to 7 yrs) in a fun way, to help them get started or to catch up at school. My program is a 3-4 month intervention that helps students to read words from the first class, and sentences and stories soon after that.
Starting with basic letter sounds and short words, student confidence grows quickly until they are ready to start reading independently. Story elements are introduced in the second stage of the phonics program along with digraphs and basic story analysis skills.Fun puzzles, sentence and picture match, games and meaningful content all contribute to help make classes interesting for children, and the quick pace we set ensures that they feel a sense of progress and motivates them to learn even more.In addition to English, I can also speak Hindi and Chinese, and I use them to help students from these language backgrounds understand the meaning of the words they learn.
